Cause To reduce the burden of human cancer, research conducted at the Institute for Cancer Research of Fox Chase Cancer Center for over eight decades has led to ground-breaking discoveries affecting science and medicine today. Current research programs are wide-ranging and include gene expression; molecular aspects of oncogenesis; viral molecular biology and pathogenesis; molecular structure and function analysis; pharmacology and therapeutics; regulation and development of the immune system; cell-cycle control; and human genetics. Opportunities are available for postdoctoral fellowships and graduate training and for professionals interested in developing technology-based business relationships or partnerships with Fox Chase.
Description:
The Institute for Cancer Research of Fox Chase Cancer Center helped pioneer the modern approach to understanding cancer by bringing together scientists from many disciplines. Faculty study the fundamental aspects of normal and abnormal cell growth processes of cancer to see what has gone wrong and how it might be corrected. Fox Chase scientists and physicians have received numerous awards and honors, including a Nobel Prize in medicine (Baruch S. Blumberg, M.D., Ph.D.); a Nobel Prize in Chemistry (Irwin "Ernie" Rose, Ph.D.); memberships in the National Academy of Sciences; General Motors Cancer Research Foundation Prizes; American Cancer Society Medals of Honor, induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, and four Bristol-Myers Squibb Awards for Distinguished Achievement. The Center has active programs in gene regulation and expression, virology, immunology, molecular oncology, developmental biology, biochemistry and biophysics.
